Today, we are picking up where we left off in our last blog post, with myth number three.

Myth 3: The affected area won’t smell.

Many homeowners who suffer water damage assume first, that the area will completely and eventually dry out and, secondly, that those structural elements that were wet wouldn’t smell. Sadly, this isn’t the case. Materials that are not properly dried or replaced will begin to smell. A nasty odor isn’t the worst part about the situation. The musty smell that will subsequently occur after water damage is a sign that mold is beginning to grow in the affected area. Noticing a musty smell can actually be your home’s saving grace because it is a sign of the damage that is occurring in places such as your walls or flooring that you can’t see with your naked eye.

If you begin to smell something, don’t hesitate till you can hardly stand the stench or until house guests are sniffing around. Myth 4: Water damage isn’t a big deal.

Between the damage that the water itself causes and the mold that will most likely occur afterwards, a lot is at stake. There is so much more to water damage restoration than just sopping up the water with an army of towels.
